Facility
Facility Standards
The hospital and ambulatory-surgery-center criteria we consider when evaluating BPH treatment facilities.
Accreditation
Joint Commission International (JCI) for international facilities, or recognized domestic equivalents (Joint Commission, AAAHC, ACHC). We verify current accreditation status — not just past or in-process — and recommend patients do the same.
Anesthesia and perioperative safety
- On-site board-certified anesthesiologists
- ACLS-trained recovery staff
- Adverse-event tracking and morbidity-and-mortality review
- Crash-cart and difficult-airway equipment
Sterilization and infection control
Documented sterile processing for endoscopes and reusable instruments. Surgical-site infection surveillance.
Endoscopy and laser equipment
Many international centers utilize technologies and manufacturers commonly used throughout the United States, including equipment from globally recognized medical device companies. Equipment should be manufacturer-certified, maintained, and current-generation for the BPH procedures offered.
Imaging and pathology
On-site ultrasound for prostate volume and PVR. Reliable pathology partner for any tissue removed.
Continuity of care
Documented handoff for postoperative complications occurring after the patient returns home, including international patients.
